Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes Yes.
Bradbury you READ MY MIND.

Ok.

Okay, so basically what this random Portugese person said [according to Google translate] is that people who agree with this quote “worship” “piles of dead wood fibers” and that “it seems that these people do not give a damn about what is written in their books. At best, they want a holy symbol, an idol of any god of information - put enough books on the shelf and be cultured; smell a book three times a week and will be a wise, hold a book of faith and can get away demons. At worst, they want something to appear intelligence.”
Um, fuck no bitch.
I read books because I love books. I love reading. I’ve loved reading ever since I read The Little Engine That Could or some shit like that. I DEVOUR books.
I also don’t give a shit whether a book makes me feel intelligent or not. I’ll carry around Sorcerer’s Stone, some old Meg Cabot book and Roots at the same time and I won’t give a rat’s ass who sees me reading what. I’m just READING. I don’t carry around Camus and pretend to read just so I can look smart.
I fully agree with Bradbury. I need to feel the book in my hand. I need to crack the spine and smell the paper and the ink. I need to trace my finger over the words. I need to toss it across the room when I am angry with it. I need to smooth the pages in apology. I need to stuff it in my backpack, to spill coffee on it, to drop the corners in the bathtub, to underline the prose and to circle the poetry and to dog ear the pages so when all is said and done, the book is well worn, well loved, and well read.
Now, tell me how you can do that with a Kindle or your iPhone.
P.S. - I don’t understand how Bradbury would be profiting from this interview. I didn’t read this and want to buy more of his books. I’ll buy his books if I feel like reading them… I did appreciate Fahrenheit 451.
Don’t mess with my books.

Google Translate says: “Basically this girl is addicted to books the same way that someone is addicted to heroin. For her it does not matter but the content material. Ie: Sleep embraced in cardboard and be happy. (I hope to be “Random Person # 2 Portuguese)”
Nikki Translate says: “Blah blah blah, bitch bitch bitch, I’m proving the original Portugese person’s point: ‘At worst, they want something to appear intelligence [sic].’ “
Listen kiddos. I’m sure you’re out there reading Twilight and thinking you’re the shit. But seriously. I do agree with one point:”This girl is addicted to books the same way that someone is addicted to heroin.”
Yes, yes I am.
I can’t walk into a bookstore without childlike joy overcoming me. I buy books when I know I shouldn’t, when I know I don’t have the money for them. I read books when I should be writing papers. I agree with you that books are my heroin.
However, just because I said I don’t carry around Camus doesn’t mean that the content doesn’t matter to me [see my earlier point about Twilight].
The books I read I find intriguing, I want nothing more than to learn something new from a book. Sometimes I buy books just for entertainment [see: the book sitting on my shelf titled “John Dies At The End” that sounded especially hilarious, thus I bought it]. Sometimes I buy books that I know are going to scare me or challenge how I think about the world. And sometimes I read books over and over again because of the way they make me feel.

Yes, but once again I ask you: Just because it’s not a paper, the book is less intriguing? Is Less good or its contents get crappier? And I say: No;

Buying books today is like buying CDs or DVDs, Bluray: You buy it because you like those so much that you need to touch it. I myself buy a lot of music on Amazon or iTunes and, sometime, buy the actual CD of that band. But does that make the other music crappier, less enjoyable or anything like that? No. eBooks are still books. They are just not “collectible”.
(And yes, I have physical books and ebooks and I love them both)
